Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy

As humans, we contend with contradicting messages, identities, cultures, and expectations. It can be overwhelming to wade through all of these aspects of experience and choose our paths. I view the work of individual psychotherapy as a process of sorting through our inner and outer worlds, and finding a state of peace, resolve and knowing.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and also draw from multicultural, feminist, and psychodynamic perspectives. First and foremost, I deeply listen and provide space where feelings can be felt in a safe and contained way.

My specialty areas include:

  • disordered eating

  • relational distress

  • couples

  • LGBTQ+ health

  • women’s health

  • trauma and PTSD

  • health at every size®

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • grief

  • body distress

  • gender and identity

Couple Therapy

Couple Therapy

I practice Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT), and was trained by Professor Don Baucom, PhD, a psychologist at UNC-Chapel Hill who developed CBCT, and continues to study and implement the approach throughout the world.

We begin by completing an in depth assessment of your relationship, including current concerns, relationship history, and individual histories of each partner. The work then transitions to directly addressing you and your partner’s concerns, such as communication difficulties, infidelity, or learning how to better operate as a couple. Some couples appreciate meeting for premarital sessions, which can be a fun and informative way to enhance your relationship. I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ couples.

Some couples decide to pursue couple therapy as an adjunct to individual therapy for individual concerns of one or both partners. For example, I can help a couple learn how to communicate better and work in a way that best supports a person working on disordered eating, problem substance use, depression, or anxiety.
